A major healthcare organization was preparing for the rollout of the Affordable Care Act exchanges, requiring coordinated planning and marketing communication across leadership and multiple functions amid significant market change.

My role

Facilitated leadership and cross-functional planning to ensure shared direction. Developed executive messaging, marketing communications strategy and plan, then worked across teams to support implementation.

Building a Brand That Made the Industry Take Notice

Situation

An IT service provider was delivering outstanding work in a growing industry, but lacked the visibility and market position to match its capabilities.

My role

Built the marketing team, conducted market research, and developed a differentiated brand and integrated campaign to increase industry visibility. Recommended creating a specialized brand that could stand apart in a crowded field of service providers, then brought it to market through targeted communications, industry events, and trade shows.

Outcome

Revenue doubled in under a year. As the COO put it, marketing “put us on the map.” Microsoft took notice, and we achieved Gold Partner status, establishing us as a leader in its specialized services.

Management Consulting Firm’s Scattered Expertise Turns into a Scalable Competitive Advantage

Situation

The founder and senior consultants had phenomenal expertise and were leaders in the non-profit consulting industry. Their campaign development work had helped regional nonprofits raise millions. But much of that success and know-how lived only in their heads.

My role

Served as strategic advisor and content consultant to capture that knowledge and develop a practical playbook that preserved institutional wisdom for consultant onboarding while strengthening business development and the sales proposal process. Designed the framework, audited existing work, facilitated high-trust working sessions, and streamlined content to support proposal development and consultant success.

Outcome

Turned institutional knowledge into a resource that could travel across the firm, supporting consultant onboarding, more efficient proposal development, and greater consistency in nonprofit campaign development and feasibility study engagements.

Building a Corporate Communications Function for a Nationwide Workforce

Situation

A nationwide specialty mobile retailer had a dispersed workforce, increasingly complex products, rapidly changing regulations, and limited connection to corporate. Turnover was high, and managers needed stronger communication support to lead teams through continual change.

My role

Served as the fractional corporate communications leader, developing the communications strategy and function from the ground up. Conducted employee listening research, created engagement programs, developed executive and partner communications and presentations, supported hiring, and provided managers with practical training for communicating through change.

Outcome

Developed a communications function where none had existed, creating a more consistent connection between corporate leadership and a nationwide workforce. More approachable executive communications and stronger manager communication helped boost employee engagement and reduce turnover.
